Hello everyone. My name is Cassie Davies and I am the composer of "Dear Juliet". "Dear Juliet" is an original musical inspired by my friends' and my own experiences throughout high school. The show features four college-aged women and each of their relationships with the same man; eventually, they all find out about each other. Conveyed entirely in the format of letters written to Juliet, a mother-like figure, "Dear Juliet" portrays the women's psychology and thoughts as they experience love and betrayal, and eventually find their independence.
I got the idea for "Dear Juliet" towards the end of my sophomore year. I heard about many relationship experiences from my female friends, and I started to notice some similarities. I felt like I was giving the same advice over and over again. Then, one of my male friends, asking me for relationship advice, said to me, "Why? Why does she react this way? Why is she so mad at me?" This show was my way of vividly answering that question. This is why.
The goal of the show is not to portray all men in a negative light, and not to generalize that "All men are horrible". It is rather to depict the women's similar experiences and how they each deal with their emotions. I hope that, like other musicals, "Dear Juliet" will hold the mirror up to humanity so people can see themselves.
